About me

Caroline Cumberbatch is dedicated to sustainability and an innovative mode of creative interior design practice that seeks to improve the human condition by synthesizing practical needs with human values. Her passion lies in harnessing the principles of meaningful design to create beauty, enrich lives and ultimately reduce the impact consumerism has on the planet.

For over three decades she has been at the forefront of the design industry and was previously Co-Founder and Head Designer of one of Tasmania’s leading boutique design agencies. Prior to selling the business, she played an instrumental role in designing a variety of iconic projects around the state as well as most notably the living quarters in Davis Station, Antarctica. She has been profiled in the media as one of Australia’s top interior designers and enlisted as an external examiner for UTas interior design degree.

Her career started Working at London’s Design & Decoration Building under Robin Guild (co-founder of Designers Guild) and Fleur Rossdale (founder of the British Interior Design Exhibition) and her appreciation for art and form has led her to be previously a Panel Member of Arts Tasmania. Outside of her pursuits in the world of design, Caroline studied law and economics at the University of Tasmania and achieved multiple awards for academic excellence.

Today she works with private residences, schools, government and businesses providing traditional interior design services; as well as researching a new mode of practice that challenges the existing order, demonstrating new priorities, new sensibilities and new possibilities.
